IMPACT OF GENDER AND LOCALITY ON MENTAL HEALTH AMONG AGED By Jayaveerudu and Prof. V. Sreekanth Reddy

Abstract

Aging the phenomenon is interesting because of the diverse types of behavioral changes and their underpinnings. Thus there is a need to understand the relationship between the mental health and the culture of the aged population. In accordance to the above aim .The present study is taken up to study the mental health among the aged in relation to Gender and locality of residence. The material used for this study is Mental Health Inventory developed by Dr. Jagadish and Dr. Srivastava (1983) consists of 56 statements. Sample of the study was 200 i.e. Male and Female, Urban and Rural 2×100. Simple random technique was used for this study. The results were analyzed and discussed by using appropriate statistical techniques (Means, SD’s, and ANOVA). Results indicate that Gender of the aged would significantly influence their mental health status, the mental health of the aged differs significantly between rural and urban aged.
