Abstract
Teaching is considered to be noblest of all professions. Teaching is a primary public institutional enterprise funded and controlled by the Government Teachers in India needs a central professional organization, to help members to identity develop and maintain high standards of competence. Teachers are of short duration and of low standard compared to the sophisticated professions. The commitment to the profession is lacking among the most of the teachers. Job satisfaction plays a very important role in a teacher’s life. Job satisfaction of teachers will contribute towards the betterment of the whole society. Since the primary school teacher have the closest access satisfaction is essential for the building up of an enlightened society. This study attempts to measure the level of Job satisfaction of primary school teachers. The sample consists of 240 primary school teachers. Job Satisfaction Scale was developed and standardized by Y. Mudgil, I.S. Muhar and P. Bhatia. (1998). Survey method was employed to describe and interpret what exists at present. The findings reveal that primary school teachers differ in their job satisfaction based on marital status, age, type of family and medium of instruction; did not differ based on their gender and locale.
