Abstract
Childlessness is a major problem in our society, it affects 60 to 168 million people worldwide. Generally one in six couples experience infertility. Procreation is socially desirable for family, and family is incomplete without children. In Indian society childlessness is considered as a curse. Women with children especially male children get high status in society as well as in family. Parents give more importance to the happiness of children than themselves. They will become ready for any compromise for the well being of their children. There is a basic instinct in every human being to be the parent of a child. So the couples will become ready for infertility treatment after not getting a child in normal way. Assisted Reproductive Technologies help many couples to make their dreams come true. For that they have to spend a large amount of money, it is not possible for everyone to afford the cost of the treatment. It creates further tension. In order to relax from the tension of childlessness some of them are engaging in many activities, these are known as coping mechanisms. Coping mechanisms are the skills or strategies to reduce stress. To get relaxation the couples are engaging in rearing of pets, running their own business, doing craft works, engage in social welfare and political services, regular visit to holy places, watching visual media, internet browsing, online reading etc. media is an important coping mechanism, it influence the life of childless couples and gives a positive attitude towards life.
