Addressing the Social and Emotional Needs for the Inclusion of Transgenders in Schools By Harsha Sharma and Dr. Latika Sharma

Abstract

Education is key to bringing optimistic changes in people’s behavior, developing radical thinking, and helping them adjust to the changing environment. India is a developing nation known for its diverse culture and groups. Some groups are marginalized and are suffering from disparity and discrimination, e.g., SC, ST,  persons with disabilities, Social and Economically disadvantaged groups LGBT(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender), etc. To study the social and emotional needs two case studies of one transgender man and transgender woman were analyzed. Data from Chandigarh city has been taken. It is essential to understand what transgender people think and their life journey to design inclusive pedagogies to provide them with a healthy environment. The paper intends to understand their Social and Emotional needs and desires to guide educators, teachers, counselors, administration, and policymakers to make the school environment inclusive.
