Abstract

Emotional intelligence has begun to emerge in the field of education, as the importance of engaging student’s interest and retaining students at school is shown to rely more and more on their ability to fit in with their peers and teachers. The capability to teach such programs requires teachers who understand their own emotional responses and have strategies to cope with these. Emotional intelligence includes self awareness & impulse control, persistence, zeal, motivation, empathy and social deftness, these are the qualities that mark people who excel, whose relationships flourish. Teachers who are emotionally healthy are in control of their emotions and their behavior. They are able to handle life’s inevitable challenges, build strong relationships, and lead productive, fulfilling lives. When bad things happen, they’re able to bounce back and move on. In the present study it is found that 100% are having high emotional intelligence among rural secondary school female teachers in Mysore Taluk. 81.1% are having high emotional intelligence and 18.9% having normal emotional intelligence among urban secondary school female teachers in Mysore Taluk. Effective management of emotional intelligence is the strong predictors of success in both personal life and in the schools. The discovery of Emotional Intelligence has definitely been a major event in the recent history of psychological constructs.
