ATTITUDE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TOWARDS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES By Dr.Hassankoya M.P.

Abstract

Good school’s foundation is formed by good teachers and improving teacher’s skill and knowledge is one of the most important needs of today. Professional development helps to develop and expand the instructional flexibility with the help of emerging new technology. Professional development is an important element of school improvement and student achievement. Teachers’ professional development activities should be aligned with standards, assignments, workshop, seminar, research, travel, and working with other experienced person and colleagues. Teachers should routinely set their own, informal, ongoing professional development agendas like additional courses, pursuing graduate study, personal study of their subject matter or teaching approaches, sharing resources and ideas with colleagues, and building learning networks through social media. A professional development activity enriches pedagogical content knowledge, gain teacher knowledge, change in classroom instructional practices, and improve student’s achievements and helps teachers to improve in an area of weakness. Survey method is used to collect the data. The investigator used Attitude scale of Professional Development Activities for analyzing the data. Sample consist of100 secondary school teachers. The more the teachers spend on professional development activities the more significant changes in practices and professional learning is acquired. In this scenario the investigator tries study the attitude of secondary school teachers towards professional developmental activities.
