Rubrics As An Assessment Tool: Problems and Challenges By Ms Shiva Sharma and Dr Amritpal Kaur

Abstract

Assessment is the process of measuring the progress of any individual while the term evaluation focuses on the quality of outcome or to pass a judgment. Assessment plays a vital role, especially in a student’s life as through this a teacher can find out learning disabilities in students which leads to on-time intervention and provision of needed support for the student. Among many other assessment tools used in the education field rubric is one which clearly points out the definite criteria of achievement taken into consideration by the teacher while assessing a student. A rubric denotes the expectations of the teacher from the students. This paper highlights the problems and challenges faced by teachers while using rubrics as an assessment tool. The researcher(s) have mentioned some suggestions regarding the use of rubrics so that they could be used efficiently and effectively by the teachers in the educational institutions.
