Abstract
The recent pandemic witnessed by the world resulted in a paradigm shift in knowledge dissemination. There was a shift from the traditional teaching mode to the online mode. With the pandemic’s end, education shifted to its traditional methodology; however, technology-driven education also crept in, and a hybrid mode was adopted worldwide. The Hyflex is a hybrid that allows learners to choose between different modes (face-to-face in class, synchronous, and asynchronous online). It aligns with NEP-2020, wherein emphasis is on “Education to all”, which is equitably distributed and accessible to all. This review examines the effectiveness, challenges, and implementation strategies of the HyFlex model in higher and medical education within the framework of NEP-2020. A systematic search of Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and government databases identified studies from 2019 to 2025 related to HyFlex and NEP-2020. After screening and applying the inclusion criteria, 15 relevant studies were critically analyzed. The Hyflex model has its advantages as it is learner-centric and provides flexibility and choice to learners. However, challenges related to infrastructure, stakeholders’ satisfaction, digital literacy, technological support, and skills are significant hurdles to its successful implementation, and thus need to be analyzed and researched extensively. Effective adoption of HyFlex model requires robust digital infrastructure, faculty training, and continuous evaluation to ensure quality and equity in higher education.
