Teaching-Learning at the Digital-age: Exploring the Effectiveness of Digital Storytelling Method By Ms. Nishi Gupta

Abstract

The passive media consumers of the past are not the students of today. Along with watching their fair amount of TV, they create and distribute their own original music, video, photos, talk, and other digital works via the Internet and digital gadgets (Ohler, 2013). It increases the need of integrating the digital world in their education process as well. Digital storytelling is one way to fulfill this purpose. Digital storytelling is the fusion of oral storytelling and digital gadgets. The researcher studied various articles written on digital storytelling including the classical readings written by the early pioneers of this concept. The current paper describes the concept of digital storytelling and talks about this concept by explaining its meaning and different types of digital stories. It highlights the basic essential elements of digital stories that need to be fulfilled and the complete process of creating a digital story step-wise. Along with the pedagogical implications of digital storytelling, this paper also sheds light on the power of digital storytelling by describing its use in different aspects. The paper concludes with the need of using digital storytelling as a teaching method by overcoming the fear of using technology by the teachers.
